Over eighty veterans attended the December 5 training event in West Los Angeles to learn how to search for, locate and maintain civilian jobs.
Los Angeles, Calif. – December 18, 2008 – CPEhr, a Los Angeles-area Human Resources Consulting firm, and New Directions, a non-profit providing services to U.S. veterans, jointly conducted a free “Career Day” training event on Friday, December 5. The purpose of the event was to educate veterans how to prepare for, successfully interview for, and maintain employment.
As an HR consulting firm specializing in helping small employers, CPEhr offered to provide New Directions’ residents with free training to assist them in finding employment. New Directions houses veterans on their West Los Angeles campus; its mission is to empower veterans and to facilitate their successful return to families and society.
“We wanted to give our veterans an edge and get them more competitive in this tough economy,” says Brigitte Slayton, New Direction’s Vocational Program Manager. “Since CPEhr has HR professionals who have worked in many different industries, we felt they were the best choice to give our veterans advice from the employer’s perspective, help them overcome obstacles, and help build their self esteem. We are very pleased with their presentations here today.”
The training curriculum included workshops on various topics, geared towards assisting veterans successfully locate and get a job. Workshop topics included: How to Look For a Job, Creating a Compelling Resume, Putting Your Best Foot Forward, Grooming and Interviewing Etiquette, and Professional Behavior in the Workplace. At the conclusion of the event, all attendees were presented a Certificate of Completion and encouraged to begin their search for employment.
The curriculum was designed by CPEhr, a professional human resources consulting firm that has been providing training for California employers since 1982. Over 80 veterans received personal and professional enrichment, and we are very proud to have provided the necessary tools for them to re-enter the workforce.”
